Tragedy as another Covid death announced in northern Lincolnshire

Another tragic Covid death has been announced by the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust.

The latest death happened in a trust hospital yesterday, Wednesday, October 13.

It has been announced by the hospital trust today, taking the overall number who have died during the pandemic in northern Lincolnshire to 506.

These figures include all of those who tested positive for Covid shortly before their death or had the virus mentioned as a cause on their death certificate.

However, they do not take into account those who have died in nursing homes or other settings.

The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust are currently treating 37 patients with coronavirus – up five from the start of the week.

There 19 patients in Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, with two in ICU.

A further 18 at Scunthorpe General Hospital, none of which are in ICU.

Goole District Hospital was treating a patient with Covid earlier in the week, but no longer is.

The trust does not release a breakdown of where deaths occurred.

North East Lincolnshire’s director of public health has warned this week that the pandemic is not in addition over.

Geoff Barnes, the director of Public Health, said: “The epicentre has switched to schools where a third of all our situations are and we are giving advice to school leaders how to manage outbreaks.

“Schools are being the hardest hit currently and we are pushing the vaccinations as much as we can.

“Our school nursing teams are doing a bright job. It is a slow course of action, partly due to schools having students who are isolating and also the need to get parental consent forms administered.

“But we are doing our best to get as many people in schools vaccinated before half term.”

He went on to urge younger people to get vaccinated against Covid.

Currently, just half of the 12 to 15 age group in North East Lincolnshire have had the jab.
