Newcastle United vs Cambridge United LIVE: Follow the action from the …

Hello and welcome to our coverage of this afternoon’s FA Cup third round tie between Newcastle United and Cambridge United.

The U’s take on Premier League opposition today at a sold out St James’ Park.

Mark Bonner’s side will be backed by just under 5000 supporters in Tyneside this afternoon, with there expected to be around 52,000 fans at today’s game.

The sides are separated by 41 places in the pyramid, with the U’s 16th in League One and Newcastle sitting 19th in the Premier League.

The U’s have beaten Northampton Town and Exeter City to reach the third round, with top flight sides entering the competition at this stage.

Bonner’s side started the New Year with a 0-0 draw at home to Portsmouth on Monday, where they managed to claim a draw despite being down to ten men and facing 27 minutes of injury-time.

That consequence left the U’s on 27 points from 24 matches, with United now winless in their last three matches.

Newcastle United are second from bottom in the top flight after picking up one win from 19 league matches.

The Magpies drew 1-1 at home to Manchester United last time out, with their last two scheduled matches postponed due to Covid issues.

Stay with us as we see whether the U’s can cause an upset at St James’ Park this afternoon!
