Evil predators seek out prey before launching manipulative campaign – …

Predators seek out their prey with stealth and cunning before embarking on a manipulative campaign of grooming prior to abusing and in scarce situations fatally harming their victim.

Exploiting weaknesses in their victim comes from a sixth sense which allows them to tailor their tactics to fit the vulnerabilities of their targets.

For 50 years George Metcalff, a former manager of tyre centres, covered up his abuse of women which culminated in the murder of a unprotected woman who had trusted him.

Patricia Henry, who had battled alcohol problems, was described as “broken” by prosecutors at Metcalff’s trial.

Patricia Henry

Metcalff, 71, took advantage of her vulnerabilities by pretending to be a friendly old man who lent her money and did her shopping – all of which made her reliant on him.

But Patricia, 46, a loving mum and daughter, was being controlled, coerced and raped by the evil pervert.

Patti first met Metcalff in 2008 when she moved into the flat above his in Burnfoot Crescent, Paisley. He became the guarantor for her new flat in Girvan in October 2017 and paid her place in addition as her first month’s rent.

When she disappeared in October 2017, red flags weren’t raised as Patti had past for going missing.

But when she didn’t contact her daughter on her 18th birthday and missed her mum’s 70th, the balloon went up.

What was soon clear to police was that Patti was no longer living and it wasn’t long before suspicions turned to Metcalff.

Crucial to a case with no body was the testimony of women who were involved with him from 1971 to 2017. They had suffered at his hands but failed to report it due to the stigma involved years ago.

Metcalff was found guilty this week of rape and murder by method unknown.

situations like Patti Henry and Margaret Fleming – who was missing for 17 years before her carers were found guilty of her murder – leave me troubled.

There’s something extremely disturbing involving the deaths of damaged and defenceless women at the hands of those they trust the most.

Patti and Margaret were prey. They meant nothing to their killers.

Metcalff manipulated Patti for the last years of her life and got rid of her for reasons unknown.

Perhaps she was about to report him to for rape. Perhaps it was over money. Or simply because she’d had enough and wanted the OAP out of her life.

Margaret was a money maker for Edward Cairney and Avril Jones.

The disappearance of both women was overlooked. Patti was missing for five months before alarm bells rang with police. Nobody cared enough to look for Margaret.

Killers adventure the weakness in the social fabric with victims few people care about.

Those who need protection are a responsibility of all of us. We can’t turn a blind eye. A cultural shift is needed.

Sadly for Patti and Margaret, whose bodies are nevertheless missing, their killers are nevertheless manipulating from behind bars.
